Dilemma of fluctuating oxygen levels

The hyperoxic-hypoxic paradox refers to the dilemma of fluctuating oxygen levels. It is crucial during cancer formation and has been shown to play a key role in regulating breast cancer growth and metastasis1. The paradox involves manipulating hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to mimic hypoxia-like conditions without compromising patient safety. The sensing of decreased or increased oxygen levels occurs through specialized chemoreceptor cells and metabolic changes at the cellular level.
