OXYGEN: THE BASIC LIFE SUSTAINING FORCE
Mild Hyperbaric Therapy (mHBOT) is a safe, effective way to get more oxygen into the body at a cellular level, by using pressurized air chambers. The chamber uses filtered ambient air with an additional oxygen concentrator to safely administer oxygen to the body with many therapeutic benefits. This allows more oxygen to penetrate otherwise oxygen-deficient areas of the body and has the potential to enhance the body’s ability to carry out oxygen-dependent processes by increasing the amount of oxygen dissolved into the blood, plasma and cerebrospinal fluids.
Oxygen is necessary for all the body’s vital functions. We can survive weeks without food, days without water, but only a few precious minutes without oxygen! The average adult consumes six pounds of oxygen per day. Ninety percent of the energy produced by the body comes from oxygen alone, only 10% comes from food. Anaerobic bacteria, toxins, fungi and viruses all have one thing in common – none can survive in an oxygen-rich environment. Oxygen feeds the body, supports the immune system, destroys toxic substances and promotes new cell growth. Oxygen is our primary source of energy, and is the fuel required by the body for the proper operation of all major systems.
mHBOT is very safe – safer than the 100% oxygen environment of the high pressure hyperbaric treatment, which is capable of causing oxygen toxicity if done excessively. Hyperbaric treatments have been safely and effectively used for a wide variety of conditions as described below. Most patients report improvement in the first 10-20 sessions, but it may take more to receive the full benefit.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TREATMENT:
Because the chamber is an enclosed space, some people may feel some anxiety or claustrophobia at first. If you have had difficulty in the past entering an airplane or an elevator, this might be an issue for you. The chamber has windows and is roomy enough to sit or lie down in, but it is a little bit like zipping yourself into a double or triple sleeping bag & inflating it. The vast majority of people are able to get used to it after one or two sessions, and most are comfortable right away.
You will be issued your own personal mask to breathe oxygen-enriched air. With the mask on, the oxygen concentration in the blood increases significantly. If for any reason you don’t feel comfortable wearing the mask, the oxygen concentration in the blood still increases, but only to about 50% of what you’d receive with the mask on. You’ll still receive benefit.
A walkie talkie will be provided so that you have easy access to communication with the outside attendant. There is some noise from the compressors that pressurize the chamber, but it is not overwhelming for most. It may be difficult to hear speakers on small electronics, so if you want to listen to your favorite music, headphones work better. It’s recommended to use the bathroom and bring a water with you in case you get thirsty.
“After his stroke, my husband had numbness in his legs, nausea, and ringing in his ears. After traditional treatment, nothing changed, but after a month of mHBOT treatment, all those symptoms disappeared.
